THE DOORS OF ‘THE HUT’ SWING OPEN FOR THE FIRST TIME

R.M.Williams launches its new travelling leather workshop, ‘The Hut’, You will be welcomed by the earthy smells of seasoned hoop pine and newly tooled leather. Inside, you will experience a workshop that pays homage to the R.M.Williams craftspeople and traditions that lie at the heart of the brand.

Terry Goodear, the company’s Head of Heritage and Heartland Marketing, explains how The Hut’s name came about and how it was built: “We tossed around a lot of names but in the end we decided on The Hut – it is inspired by the high-country cattlemens’ huts: practical and highly functional. It also references the story of the founding of the company in 1932 by Reginald Murray Williams in his shed at 5 Percy Street in Prospect, South Australia, and of our skilled craftspeople who carry on the tradition today.”

Glimpse of an ongoing legacy The Hut is adorned with iconic signage, old-fashioned quart pots and drovers’ mirrors, alongside a collection of leather-workshop tools that provide a tantalising glimpse into the quality, workmanship and people behind the present-day R.M.Williams brand. It will stock R.M.Williams’ famous boots and belts, and give visitors a first-hand experience of the brand’s craftspeople at work, paying homage to the R.M.Williams workshop located in South Australia.

Following its debut at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2018, The Hut will appear at metropolitan and regional events around Australia, sharing the traditions and craft training of R.M.Williams wherever it goes.

The launch of The Hut marks a passing of the baton for R.M.Williams. In January 2018, the famous R.M.Williams Longhorn Express was retired to the company’s Adelaide workshop, with The Hut taking its place on the road. For the past 17 years, the Longhorn Express has traveled around the states and territories of mainland Australia, journeying across more than 820,000 kilometers, touching the hearts millions of people and building lasting friendships, partnerships and customers.

R.M.Williams Chief Marketing Officer Mathew Hayward says, “The Longhorn Express touched so many people in its years of rolling around Australia, however there comes a time when every champion retires. The Hut is an exciting new expression of the R.M.Williams legend and will bring a unique, new experience to our Australian landscape”.
